Personal Injury Lawyer Misinformation
Myth #1: I can handle this on my own! I don’t need a lawyer!
Fact: The insurance company has trained claims adjusters, investigators, and attorneys handling thousands of car accidents cases every day. Quite simply, the less they pay you for an injury claim the more money they keep! Believe it or not, insurance companies are big business! Getting a lawyer simply levels the playing field with someone who knows your rights.
Myth #2: But a lawyer will take all the money!
Fact: Hiring a personal injury lawyer almost always results in an offer several times higher than you would receive without a lawyer. It may not be fair, but it is a fact. When your case is resolved you will almost certainly recover thousands more in compensation, even after the lawyer fees are paid.
Myth #3: I don’t want to sue someone!
Fact: Then don’t! A significant portion of our cases are resolved through negotiation and the claims process without filing a lawsuit. The money you recover doesn’t come from the bank account of another person. It comes from the insurance company that person paid monthly premiums to cover them for this exact type of situation.
Myth #4: My divorce, family, estate lawyer can handle my injury case!
Fact: Lawyers are like doctors, in that they generally each have their own special areas of practice. You wouldn’t hire your primary physician or heart surgeon to perform your brain surgery. Likewise, hiring a general practice lawyer or other type of lawyer to handle a personal injury case could lead to lost claims and inadequate recovery. All I handle is personal injury cases.
Myth #5: Getting a lawyer is expensive!
Fact: We honestly do not get paid unless you get paid. There is not “catch” to it. The fee we take is often a percentage of what we are able to recover for you. If we are unable to help you, we simply part ways without you paying a dime. As mentioned above, the amount recovered after hiring an injury lawyer is almost always significantly more than the amount without one.
